Privacy Policy

The short version
Will.com has two tiers. On the free tier, your answers never leave your device: documents are generated in your browser and downloaded directly to you. No account is required.
With a subscription, your questionnaire answers and generated PDFs are encrypted in your browser before they reach our servers, using a key derived from your passphrase. We have designed our system so that we cannot read your will. The technical details are in our security overview.
What we collect
Free tier: document data is not collected
On the free tier, Will.com does not collect, transmit, or store the content of your documents. All answers you enter are processed on your device and are not sent to Will.com servers. Your generated documents are downloaded directly to you.
Your draft answers are saved in your browser’s local storage so you can resume where you left off. This data stays on your device and is erased when you close the tab after generating your documents.
When you close the tab or browser after generating documents, your answers and the generated PDFs are erased from your device. This protects you on shared or public computers. You can also click “Erase now” on the documents page to wipe immediately.
Paid subscription: end-to-end encrypted
If you subscribe, your questionnaire answers and generated PDFs are encrypted in your browser before any of them reach our servers. The encryption key is derived from a passphrase you choose. We never see your passphrase, and we have designed our system so that we cannot read your plan content.
Because the encryption key never leaves your browser, we cannot recover your data if you forget your passphrase. There is no password reset that restores your stored answers. You can always start the questionnaire over with a new passphrase: it takes about twenty minutes.
To delete your stored data, email privacy@will.com. We will remove your stored ciphertext and generated PDFs.
Accounts
The free tier requires no account. There is no sign-up, no login, and no email collection.
The paid subscription requires an account so we can attach your documents to you. Accounts are managed by Clerk. We collect your email address and, at checkout, your billing details (handled by Stripe, not stored on our servers).
You can create your account with an email address or by using a third-party sign-in provider such as Apple or Facebook. If you use one of these providers, we receive basic profile information from them, typically your name and email address, to create and secure your account. We do not post to those accounts or access anything beyond the basic profile and email you authorize.
Analytics
We collect anonymous usage data to understand which pages are useful, where people get stuck in the questionnaire, and to detect errors. This includes: page views, referrer, country, device type, browser, which questionnaire steps you visit, and which document types you select (for example, “will and trust”). Events within a single browser session are linked by a random session identifier stored in your browser’s session storage. This identifier is not a cookie, is not persistent, and is erased when you close the tab.
No names, addresses, answers, or document content are included in analytics. No cross-site tracking. We do not use advertising pixels or share analytics data with advertisers.
Analytics data is processed by Vercel Analytics and Axiom.
Cookies
On the free tier, Will.com does not set any cookies. Vercel Analytics uses a privacy-preserving approach that does not require cookies.
On the paid subscription, Clerk sets a session cookie so you can stay signed in across pages. It is used only to keep you logged in.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services:
- Vercel, hosting and analytics. Your IP address and standard HTTP headers are visible to Vercel when you load pages.
- Axiom, log storage and analytics queries. Vercel forwards server logs (including IP addresses and page paths) and our anonymous usage events to Axiom for analysis. Axiom does not receive any document content or personal information beyond what is in standard HTTP logs.
- Clerk (paid subscription). Handles account creation and sign-in for subscribers. Clerk stores your email address and authentication state.
- Stripe (paid subscription). Processes subscription payments. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are not stored on our servers. We receive only a subscription status and the last four digits of your card.
- Supabase (paid subscription). Stores only encrypted ciphertext: the wrapped key material, the encrypted questionnaire envelope, and the encrypted PDFs. Supabase cannot read any of this content.
- Upstash (paid subscription). Used for rate limiting on account-bound actions so we can prevent abuse.
- Resend. Sends transactional email: free-tier follow-up reminders (after you download your will) and receipts.
- Notarization (optional). If you choose to notarize your documents, any documents you share with a notary are between you and the notary. Will.com does not see, transmit, or store your documents at any point in this process.
We do not embed third-party trackers, advertising pixels, or social media widgets on any page of Will.com.
Children
Will.com is intended for adults (18 and older). We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
